Details

Anton and Tracie were making their back east to New York, chasing storms on their way back home. The setup looked marginal at best, but I tagged along with them for the day. The target was somewhere on the IN/OH border.

Incoming Shelf
4 miles N of Clayton, OH
6:12 PM
We caught a line of storms northwest of Dayton, the shelf cloud seen here looming in the western sky.

QLCS Lowering/Wall
4 miles N of Clayton, OH
6:19 PM
Maybe a scuddy attempt at a wall cloud on a QLCS inflow notch, or maybe just a generic block of scud under a shelf.

Pano Shelf
4 miles N of Clayton, OH
6:19 PM
North to south panoramic of the shelf cloud. The line was gusting out and we were heading into populated areas around Dayton, so we decided to call the chase and split up. I headed back west to Illinois and Anton and Tracie continue on eastward.
A little fire in the sky on the drive home is always nice.

Conclusion

A nice shelf cloud and a pretty sunset seemed inline for expecations on this chase, but it was nothing to write home about, so I'll chalk this one up as a bust.
