Details

Second day chasing with Sharon Robson, our local Skywarn spotter group leader. This day featured a moderate risk for tornado, potentially greater storm coverage over worse terrain, so the extra help spotting structure and roads was much needed.

Our initial target was Greensburg, IN where terrain was still favorable, but we got pulled down toward the gnarly terrain along the Ohio River as that's where storms were tracking. We managed to get in front of a tornado warned cell for a couple minutes, spotting a ragged looking wall cloud and RFD gust front that was quite low, but no tornado. The storm accelerated to about 55 mph making it impossible to keep up with over the hilly, tree filled terrain. We paralleled from the south for a bit, but there was no view through the rainy RFD. I dropped south across the Ohio into Kentucky to try to play the next cell in the line, howevever, cells were congealing into a big mess so we called the chase and headed for home.

Conclusion

A brief view of a wall cloud wasn't enough to make this chase for me, which had higher expectations for some tornado play and a greater distance investment than previous plays, so chalking this one up as a bust.
