Details

First day on a multi-day run to the Northern Plains, I targeted eastern Nebraska hoping for an afternoon tornadic supercell.

RFD Gust Front
1 miles E of Daykin, NE
4:49 PM
Initial cells in southeastern Nebraska went High Precipitation quickly and presented some structure, but soon congealed. I bumped into Nick Nolte, and then while trying to meet up with the team, accidentally tailed Jim Tang thinking it was Hank.
I met up with Hank Schyma, Anton and Tracie Seimon, and Carsten Peter to form a loose caravan.

Gust Front
10 miles WSW of West Point, NE
7:24 PM
We targeted new cells to the north, but it was pretty much just a big gnarly gust front by the time we got on it.

Sunset Gust Front
4 miles WNW of Tekamah, NE
8:56 PM
Atop a hill ust outside of Tekamah, we stopped to watch the advancing line, which presented some dramatic structure and color at sunset.

Sunset Gust Front
4 miles WNW of Tekamah, NE
8:58 PM
A pop of vibrant purple appeared due north in a gap between cells.

The photogenic end made the day for me on what had otherwise been a rather mediocre chase.

Lightning
4 miles WNW of Tekamah, NE
10:27 PM
I wound up car camping at that spot while the rest of the team went to find rooms for the night. I kept my camera on the tripod, shooting lightning after dark until I was finally overtaken by heavy rain.

Conclusion

A borderline bust given the lack of noteworthy supercell structure or tornadoes, the photogenic colors and gust front at sunset made the chase for me.
